Questions for us from this chapter:

  1. This is one of the longest chapters in the book. Is that proportionate to the weight of the question? How significant is it as a defeater belief in our contexts?
  2. What are some of the strongest and freshest pieces of evidence in this chapter?
  3. Which do you think might be the most effective approaches – testimonies of scientists, historical survey, meaning and morality, fine tuning and foundations, Genesis 1?
  4. What do you make of the connection between atheism and cultural/ethnic/class background? (p.118)
  5. If both atheism and Christianity ‘are positions of faith’ (p.129), can we help people see that?
  6. How does this all connect with the Covid-19 debate and public relationship with science?
  7. How does this connect with education, parenting and Generation Z?
