Workshop: How to run a prayer meeting (Andy Mason)
Principles:
- Beware public prayer becoming a substitute for private prayer (Matt 6:5-6)
- The ‘why’ of your prayer meeting is more important than the ‘how’! Our sheer collective dependence upon the goodness of our Father (Mark 9:29)
Practicalities:
- What sort of spirituality?
- How are we introducing the prayer meeting? E.g. a story
- The prayer items – mix it up
- Prayer seasons. E.g. 2 x weeks in the year of prayer 30 min in evening; crisis response prayer; take month off Bible studies for prayer
- Music – warm our affections and pray with song
- Physicality – e.g. get people standing; prayer walk
- Fasting – Piper, Hunger for God
- Momentum – keep a pace, mix it up
